This illustration project was to redesign the movie poster for the 1998 musical film The Prince of Egypt. The goal was to create a new poster that still captures the essence and spirit of the original film poster. Along with a re-imagined poster, merchandise collateral was also designed, printed, and physically mocked-up, such as a vinyl record sleeve and cover, sticker sheet, and postcards.
This new poster is oriented horizontally and used cool-toned colors, contrasting from the original warm-toned vertical poster. The purpose of the horizontal orientation is to create an atmospheric, mystical landscape that captures an integral moment for the characters while also telling the audience more of what the film is about.
Appropriate merchandise was also created, still following the theme and aesthetic of the film. Since The Prince of Egypt is a musical, a vinyl record sleeve and cover were created. The outside of the vinyl cover is of an iconic scene from the movie, while the inside depicts a map of the frequent locations seen throughout the plot. The sleeve that holds the physical vunyl depicts a Middle Kingdom Egypt-inspired illustration.
Three different illustrative postcards from the various locations mentioned throughout the film were created, as well as a sticker sheet with more illustrations of icons and images related to the plot and scenery.
